When we moved to Arizona last year we got a nice little surprise and found out we were pregnant as I started getting morning sickness right away. We had just finished traveling to California to visit family AND driving from Texas to Arizona. In the meantime Cayn got used to sleeping with us because I was too sick to get him to start sleeping in his own bed, BIG MISTAKE! In July we started getting him to sleep in his toddler bed. That was a nightmare. I didn’t feel comfortable and neither did Cayn. I entered problem solving mode and thought “maybe it’s his room? lets rearrange the whole house!” (Justin loves when I do that), so we moved his bedroom and guess what………he still hated it.
After I had Naomi, her and I slept in the guest room for the first month in fear that Cayn would roll over on her (jk!!). I needed some light to nurse her since she was all tongue tied and I didn’t want to wake anyone up. I then decided Cayn needed a BIG boy bed because I felt he would feel way more comfortable in it and might start wanting to sleep by himself 🙂 So again I thought “lets rearrange the house!” (remember Justin loves it when I do that). We moved the queen sized bed into Cayn’s room and he started falling asleep a lot faster but he would wake up in the middle of the night and come into our bed (which is just fine with us, its not going to last forever).
Justin and I decided to surprise Cayn on his birthday with a new house bed and he loved it! He actually slept the first two nights in his bed without waking up. I just know my baby and that he wanted a super big bed. We then moved Naomi into her own room…..wait did I say Naomi? I meant Naomi’s things into her own room. She is still sleeping with me, and I’ll probably move her in her own bed when she falls off the bed like Cayn did (jk again…..but Cayn really did roll off the bed). My goal is actually when she is three months. We moved Cayn when he was six months because that’s when he actually rolled off the bed.
I have always had a playroom for Cayn but he has a lot more toys now and just makes a huge mess whenever he even looks at them from across the house. Its right off the kitchen so when the kitchen is a mess and the playroom is a mess my life literally seemed to become a mess. I, just by chance, came across a post called “Rethinking the Playroom”. I was actually looking for a more modern looking playroom but what I read in that post was even better. It said children learn better without one big room full of toys. I mean wouldn’t you rather have every room in the entire house be yours instead of dedicating a whole one to just toys? I started moving his toys around by placing some home décor baskets in the main rooms we are in with the appropriate toys in each room. For example, a toy kitchen would be in the nook of the kitchen, his superhero costumes in my room, and a basket of balls by the back door, etc. Now all his toys are organized and stay organized. As an added bonus my house looks so cute now:) It is still a work in progress and probably will be until they’re both over 30 and out of the house….maybe.
