When planning Cayn’s nursery, of course I wanted something different and nothing match-matchy. If I can picture something in my head, then it’s coming to life, with the help of my handy husband;) An American theme is what I was going for. Cayn’s room came out exactly how I wanted it and holds a lot of sentimental value, thanks to my mother-in-law.
We live in a two-bedroom apartment, so Cayn’s room doubles as the guest room when family comes to visit. Justin received this American Flag above the bed on one of his deployments. He framed it with leftover wood from a palette, and of course, stained it as well.
The two green throw pillows were made by my mother-in-law, Donna, who bought a canvas online. They came out so beautiful. The throw pillow with the map is from Ikea.
Cayn’s crib was one of the biggest projects in his room. It still amazes me that Justin made the plans for this and built it. He set up a tent in the middle of the apartment which drove me crazy; it was up for a couple months and there was a ton of saw dust EVERYWHERE. We painted the crib using Annie Sloan Chalk paint and wax.
I love his nightlight. He doesn’t use a nightlight while he sleeps, maybe when he is older, but he definitely loves playing with it:) Justin made this as well, he cut out the clouds with plywood. He bought some lights at Ikea to wire it; it also changes colors.
Lastly, Cayn’s beautiful Ikea dresser. This one was my project, well, the project I did myself. I originally wanted to make Cayn’s bedding..I bought the sewing machine, and that just didn’t happen. At first, I wanted this to be stained. After I did it, I HATED it. So I painted it white, using Annie Sloan Chalk paint. I used pieces of a palette for the top. I painted it with chalk paint in the color Graphite and went over it with the dark wax. It came out so beautiful!
