Long distance relationship, a term every couple dreads. Weather your significant other is getting deployed, going on a long business trip, or even off to college, it’s an obstacle that makes or breaks a relationship. My husband and I are currently going through his second deployment and I would love to say it gets easier, but unfortunately it doesn’t. There are a few things I do to make them more bearable…
Count Down Calendar. Honestly I look forward to marking down the days till I get to see my honey. Nothing makes my mornings better, besides coffee, than seeing another day marked down.
Keep the mail boxes happy. I love making T care packages and stuffing them with his favorite sweets and corky gifts. It also gives us an opportunity to send each other hand written letters, which I look forward to the most.
Doing things together, while being apart. Reading a book, watching a tv series, or starting a devotional together makes it feel like you’re not so far apart from one another.
Surround yourself with positivity. This, I believe to be most important. Positive people will not only influence you, but reflect on your relationship. On T’s last deployment, I spent a great deal with his family and mine. They were all such a great support system for us. I find it so easy for people to surround themselves with those who are unhappy and negative. Those types of people will tear your relationship apart so quickly.
Visit, if you can. If you have the opportunity to see your sweety, take it <3
I believe that a LDR made my marriage stronger than ever. I really learned to love and appreciate my husband throughout these deployments. I hope that if you’re going through a long distance relationship that these tips will help <3 Please feel free to share some of your tips on how you get through your LDR.
